With larger needles and using the provisional method (see Glossary), CO 110 (120, 134, 148) sts. Work 10 rows in St st for hem facing. Knit 1 (WS) row to create turning ridge. Work 9 more rows in St st. Carefully remove waste yarn from provisional CO and place exposed sts on a smaller needle, fold facing to WS along turning ridge, and holding the needles parallel, work k2tog (1 st from each needle) across row—still 110 (120, 134, 148) sts. Work 2 rows even. Dec row: (RS) K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1—2 sts dec’d. Rep dec row every 6th row 3 more times, then every 4th row 8 (10, 11, 12) times—86 (92, 104, 116) sts rem. Work even until piece measures 8½ (9, 9, 9½)" (21.5 [23, 23, 24] cm) from CO, ending with a WS row. BO all sts.
